After a long and brave struggle with breast cancer, Betty Dudley Wilson, 62, of Houston, passed away on September 7, 2017 surrounded by her family.

Born in Philadelphia, PA, she later moved to Florida, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education from Florida State University, and then on to Texas, where she completed a Masters in Early Childhood Development from the University of Houston. For 36 years, she did what she loved best: making a difference in the lives of young people by teaching in the Houston Independent School District system.

Betty was a person of deep faith. At age 9, during a Billy Graham Crusade, she gave her life to Christ. She served God in many ways over the years, especially as a devoted member of Houston's First Baptist Church. She spent many hours in the preschool ministry, sewing costumes for the annual Christmas Pageant, and working on the Hard Hat Crew during the church's recent renovation.

She had a lifelong commitment to Scouting, both as a Girl Scout herself and later as an involved parent with both the Boy and Girl Scouts. As the mother of two Texas A&M students, she was a proud member of the Northwest Harris County Aggie Moms Club.

Betty is survived by her best friend and loving husband of 31 years, Paul, and by her son, Christopher and daughter, Kaitlyn, who were the joys of her life.

Betty was one of six daughters of Gilbert and Alma Dudley of Gloucester VA, where she enjoyed many happy days at their farm. She also is survived by her sisters Jane Skaare (Richard) of Harrisburg, PA; Barbara Riker (Greg) of Ft Wayne, IN; Susan Kanwischer (Lynn) of San Antonio, TX; Ginny Kauffman (Bryan) of Williamsburg, VA; and Gayle Carlton (Stacy) of Tallahassee, FL. Betty leaves behind a large group of beloved family and friends.

Services honoring Betty's life of love and faith will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, September 15, 2017 at the First Baptist Church of Houston, 7401 Katy Freeway, Houston. The burial will follow at Memorial Oaks Cemetery located at 13001 Katy Freeway, Houston.

Keeping with her love for children, in lieu of flowers, it is Betty's wish that donations be made to the St Judes Research Hospital, 501 St Judes Place, Memphis, TN.
